Labor staffing issues and what can be done about it
The number one problem facing many restaurants are staffing problems—caused by many factors.
1: There is generally a smaller pool of potential workers wanting to work in restaurants
2: New employees are usually requiring a large increase in wages
3: Employees don’t want to be put in precarious positions facing obnoxious customers
4: Employees are calling in sick due to the highly contagious Omicron variant
What can a restaurant owner do to overcome these issues?
Newer technology needs to be implemented- from the kitchen to order taking and payment. POS solutions(point of sale) are changing rapidly and now includes many features that a year or two ago weren’t even considered by the independent restaurateur.
Pay and order at the table, pay by app, on-line ordering and self service are just some of the newly implemented solutions that many owners are considering implementing. All have the same benefit of allowing a reduced number of employees to serve their ever increasing customer volume.
There are many articles that have been written that discusses these options. Some are listed here.
